In 1838, Thomas Joyce sold his part of Shepherdsville lots 39 and 40 to Jesse Applegate who also agreed to pay off a mortgage on the ground held by Richard P. Simmons as described on another page. Then in 1840 Applegate sold the ground to W. W. Maraman as shown below.

This indenture made this fifth day of August in the year of our Lord, 1840 between Jesse H. Applegate and Sarah, his wife of the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, and State of Kentucky of the one part, and Wilford Walton Maraman of the same place of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said, Jesse H. Applegate, for and in consideration of the sum of $3500 in hand, paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Applegate has sold and by these presents does sell and convey onto the said Wilford Walton Maraman so much of lots numbers 39 and 40 in the new plan of the Town of Shepherdsville as was conveyed to the said Applegate by Thomas Joyce by deed dated 2nd February 1839 of record in Bullitt County Court Office and conveyed to said Joyce by William Jones, Commissioner appointed by the Bullitt Circuit Court on behalf of James Brown's heirs by deed bearing date the 26th day of January 1835 and now of record in the Clerk's office of the Bullitt Circuit Court Deed Book A, page 264. And also by Wilford Lee and Margaret his wife by deed bearing date the 18th day of January 1830, now of record in the Clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court in Deed Book G, page 186 for the boundary of the parts of lots hereby conveyed, reference is made to the said deeds.
To have and to hold said parts of lots No. 39 and 40 in the Town of Shepherdsville, being the same tavern house and lots and appurtenances whereon said Jesse H. Applegate now resides, together with all and singular the appurtenances to the same belonging on in anywise appertaining. To have and to hold the said parts of lots and appurtenances hereby conveyed unto him the said Wilford Walton Maraman and to his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Jesse H. Applegate for himself, his heirs and assigns, does hereby convenant and agree to and with the said Wilford Walton Maraman and his heirs and assigns that he said Jesse H. Applegate will and his heirs, executors and administrators shall warrant and forever defend the title to said parts of lots and appurtenances here sol unto him the said Wilford Walton Maraman, and to his heirs and assigns forever against the claims of them the said Applegate and wife and against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever by this their deed in fee simple with general warranty. In testimony whereof the said Jesse H. Applegate and Sarah his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date first herein written. (signed) J. H. Commonwealth of Kentucky, Bullitt County, to wit. I Noah C. Summers, clerk of the Bullitt County Court, do certify that this deed from Jesse H. Applegate and Sarah his wife to Wilford Walton Maraman was this day produced to me in said county and acknowledged by the said Jesse H. Applegate to be his act and deed. And the said Sarah Applegate, being examined by me privily and apart from her husband, declares that she did freely and willingly seal and deliver the said deed and wishes not to retract it, and acknowledged the said writing again shown and explained to here to be her act and deed and consenteth that the same may be recorded. Whereupon the said deed together with the foregoing certificate thereon endorsed hath been duly admitted to record in my office. Given under my hand this 5th day of August 1840. (signed) Noah C.
