Free Online Genealogical Resources

Family Search Project

The Family Search project provides online access to a considerable amount of genealogical data.

The Kentucky Births and Christenings, 1839-1960 Collection provides records from that time span. Obviously not all births and christenings are listed, but many are. For example, there are 1,629 births and/or christenings listed for Bullitt County alone. Many of these records give the actual dates as well as the parents' names, and sometimes additional data.

The Kentucky Deaths and Burials, 1843-1970 Collection includes 2,686 Bullitt County related deaths and burials records. For example, Lula Frances Houser was born in Mt. Washington on 26 Jul 1880 to Silas and Cassie (Hawes) Carter, married William Houser, and died in Cincinnati, Ohio on 17 Jan 1941. Although her death took place outside Bullitt County, she is included in this collection because she was born here. Many records include this amount of information.

The Kentucky, Death Records, 1911-1955 Collection provides date and place of death, and names of parents.

The Kentucky Marriages, 1785-1979 Collection contains 8,706 Bullitt County marriage records. These marriage records frequently include the name of the parents of the bride and groom as well.

Find A Grave

The Find A Grave web site provides information about the graves of thousands of people. The site is sponsored by advertising, but the information is freely available.

Their search engine allows you to search for individuals by name, specifying their location by country, state, and county. You may also search for specific cemeteries to see the individuals buried there.

Be cautioned that not all burials are listed for each cemetery. This is a community effort with information added by individuals. While burials in some cemeteries are almost completely listed, others have only a handful of entries. Still this is a useful resource.

As examples, using the Cemetery Search page, we searched for Hebron Cemetery in Bullitt County and found that there are over 4,000 interments listed for this cemetery. A similar search for the Cedar Grove Cemetery turned up 108 interments listed; while the Mount Washington Cemetery listed 667 interments.
