On 1 Jan 1821, John Hughes sold most of the Thomas Brend patent that he had purchased in 1799. The purchaser was William Pope Jr. The deed transcription is given below, followed by images of the deed.

This indenture made this first day of January eighteen hundred and twenty one between John Hughes of Jefferson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and William Pope Jr. of said county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Hughes for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said William Pope Jr., the receipt of which is hereby acknowledge, hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell, alien release convey and confirm unto the said William Pope Jr. his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situate in the county of Bullitt and said state on south side of Salt River and bounded as followeth to wit. Beginning at a beech and elm trees, a corner to a 600 acres survey in the name of Peter Shepherd and corner to a tract of land conveyed by said Hughes to Jonathan Irons, also a corner to a survey in the name of James Honey, thence with Shepherd's line North fifty four degrees West three hundred and sixty poles to three maples on the bank of Salt River at low water mark, thence down the said river South 9 degrees East 36 poles, South 30° West 44 poles, North 80° W 79 poles, South 40° West 11 poles, South 17° East 166 poles being the patent courses to a red oak tree on the bank of Salt River, the beginning corner of said tract and with a line thereof South 41 degrees East to the corner of the land conveyed to said Irons and with the line of said Irons to the beginning, being all of a tract of land patented in the name of Thomas Brend except what was sold and conveyed by said Hughes to Jonathan Irons - to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land unto the said William Pope Jr. his heirs and assigns forever against the said John Hughes doth covenant and agree to and with the said William Pope Jr. his heirs and assigns that he and his heirs shall warrant and defend the said land against themselves and their heirs but not against any other claims it being expressly understood and agreed that the said Hughes and his heirs and not to be accountable for any thing should a pat in which of said land be lost or taken away by any adverse interferring claims - But it is agreed that should the siad land or any part thereof by any other interferring claims - the said Pope is authorized in his own name or the name of said Hughes to prosecute a suit against the said Brend and his heirs under the deed to said Hughes to recover damages for any part or this much of the land that may be lost and taken whatsoever sum may be recovered shall be equally divided between said Pope and the said Hughes or their heirs after deducting all costs and charges. I Worden Pope, clerk of the county court of Jefferson County in the state of Kentucky do certify that on this day John Hughes the granter personally appeared before me in my office and signed, sealed, acknowledged, and delivered the foregoing deed as own for his act and deed. As Clerk of Bullitt County Court in the State of Kentucky I do certify that on this day the foregoing indenture of bargain and sale from John Hughes to William Pope Jr. together with the testimonial thereon endorsed was presented to me in my office and that the same together with this certificate are truly recorded in my said office, given under my name this 2nd day of April 1821.
