Thomas and Elizabeth McGee to John McDowell

Parakeet Lick Property - 187 Acres; 20 Sep 1828

This indenture made and concluded this 20th day of September, eighteen hundred and twenty eight between Thomas McGee and Elizabeth his wife of Nelson County and state of Kentucky of the first part and John McDowell of Bullitt County and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thos McGee and Elizabeth for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred and thirty six dollars to them in hand paid on the .. day of Jun 1814, the receipt whereof the said Thos McGee and Elizabeth his wife acknowledge themselves fully satisfied, hath granted bargained and sold aliened & conveyed and confirmed unto the said John McDowell a certain lot piece or parcel of land containing one hundred and eighty seven acres lying and being in Bullitt County on the north side of Salt River that was allotted to Wm J. McGee son of John McGee dec'd and that John McDowell bought of Thos McGee while guardian for said Wm J. McGee and that was conveyed by Abner King and Patrick McGee commissioners appointed by the Nelson County Court to lay off and divide the lands of John McGee dec'd to his children and bounded as follows towit. Beginning on a hickory stump on the north side of Salt River near the Parakeet Lick above Shepherdsville, thence north thirty eight degrees west three hundred and thirty six poles to an elm and hickory, thence south sixty degrees west one hundred and forty two poles to a hickory and elm, thence south forty six and one half degrees east three hundred and fourteen poles to a honey locust bush, thence north eighty nine east seventeen poles to a sycamore, thence south one degree east thirty two poles crossing the two salt wells in the center in Parakeets Lick to two maples on the bank of Salt River, thence up the river with its meanders to the Beginning corner. To have and to hold only the 187 acre tract of land with its appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said McDowell that they will warrant and forever defend the said tract of land unto the said John McDowell his heirs and assignees forever from all and every person or persons claiming or to claim the same and all other claims whatsoever in testimony whereof the said Thos McGee and Elizabeth his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and date above written. Nelson County in Kentucky, to wit. I Benjamin Grayson clerk of the county court of the said county do certify that on the day and date hereof Thomas McGee and Elizabeth McGee his wife party to this deed to John McDowell did in my presence severally acknowledge the same to be their act and deed and the said Elizabeth McGee being by me privily examined apart from her husband declared that she did freely and willingly seal acknowlege and deliver the said deed then shown and explained to be her and wishes not to retract it and consenteth that the same be recorded in the proper office.
