Richard Simmons to Joseph Simmons, 175 Acres

Richard Simmons obtained 1000 acres between Salt River and Floyd's Fork from the surveys of Marsham Brashear, and sold parts of it to several people including this part to Joseph Simmons. At the time, this was still part of Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Deed Book 4, pages 243

This indenture made this first day of January 1795 between Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha of Nelson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Joseph Simmons of the same county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife for the consideration of the sum of five shillings in hand to them paid & themselves fully satisfied, have gave, granted, bargained and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Joseph Simmons, his heirs executors, administrators & assigns, a certain parcel or tract of land lying in Jefferson County between Floyd's Fork and Salt River, part of Marsham Brashear's settlement and preemption containing 175 acres. Beginning at Brittain White's corner that stands in Levi Simmon's line, running thence North 14° East 154 poles, thence North 76° West 178 1/2 poles, thence South 14° West 154 poles, thence South 76° East 59 poles to Brittain White's corner, thence with said line 119 1/2 poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract of land together with all & singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Joseph Simmons, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forever and we the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha do hereby agree to warrant and defend the said 175 acres of land against them and their heirs & against all & every person or persons whoever unto him the said Joseph Simmons his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set out hands & seals the day and year within mentioned. (signed) Richard Simmons, Tabitha Simmons.

At a court held for Jefferson County, 7th of July 1795. This indenture of bargain and sale from Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife to Joseph Simmons was acknowledged by the said Richard and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Stephen Ormsby, Clerk
