On 29 Apr 1803, Jacob Shawler purchased 192 acres of land from Adam Shepherd that was located along Cane Run in southern Bullitt County. Neighboring property owners mentioned included John Masden, John Macher and Joseph Floyd.

This indenture made this 29th day of April in the year of 1803 between Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife of Bullitt County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Jacob Shawler of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witness that they aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife for and in consideration of the full and just sum of two hundred and sixty two dollars current money of the state aforesaid have bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto him the aforesaid Jacob Shawler and his heirs forever all their right, title, claim, and interest of in and to a certain parcel of land containing one hundred and ninety two acres by survey situate lying and being in the county aforesaid and on Cane Run, waters of Crooked Creek, and bounded as followeth to wit. Beginning at John Masden's corner of two beeches in a line of John Macher's lower 500 acre survey, thence with Masden's line N 10° W 276 poles to 2 white oaks (passing said Masden's corner of sycamore and buckeye at 179 poles), thence N 80° E 107 poles t oa white oak and black oak in Joseph Floyd's line, thence with said line S 25° E 83 poles to said Floyd's corner of sugartree and beech on the north bank of Cane Run, thence up said run and crossing the same 22 poles to a dogwood, white walnut, ash and water beech, thence S 10° E 62 poles to a white oak and beech in the original line of said Marcher's upper 500 acre survey, thence with said line S 63° W 62 poles to the original corner of white oak an ash in a line of the lower 500 acre survey, thence with said line S 10° E 100 poles to the original corner of large black oak, thence with another line S 80° W 87 poles to the beginning. To have and to hold all and singular the above described tract or parcel of land with all & singular the rights, privileges, tenements, farms, and all and every other the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the aforesaid Jacob Shawler and his heirs forever from them the aforesaid Adam Shepherd & Rachel his wile and their heirs forever, and they the aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife for themselves do covenant with him the aforesaid Jacob Shawler and his heirs that they the aforesaid Adam Shepherd & Rachel his wife the above described tract or parcel of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging as aforesaid from themselves and their heirs, and from all and every the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatever unto him the aforesaid Jacob Shawler, his heirs or assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. Bullitt County (to wit) I Frederic William Spence Grayson, clerk of the county court of said county do hereby make known to all whom it may concern that on the thirtieth day of April last Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife, a party to this indenture, personally before me acknowledged the same to be their voluntary act and deed (she the said Rachel being privily examined by me separate and apart from her said husband declared that she made her said acknowledgement freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her said husband or thro fear of his displeasure) and that I have recorded the said indenture in my office as required by law.
