Adam Shepherd to John W. Beckwith - 250 Acres

In 1818 John W. Beckwith purchased another tract of land from Adam and Rachel Shepherd. It adjoined the 150 acre tract that Shepherd sold to Beckwith and Grayson in 1813. The deed, recorded in Deed Book D, pages 184-5 in the County Clerk's Office in Shepherdsville, is transcribed below. Images of the actual deed are also provided.

Beckwith of the said county of Jefferson and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife for and in consideration of the sum of $400 current money to them in hand paid by the said Beckwith, have given, granted, bargained and sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm to the said Beckwith a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the said county of Bullitt on Salt River, back of and below Shepherdsville, containing 250 acres more or less, and bounded as follows. Beckwith, his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use and behoof forever. And the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife for themselves, their heirs &c further covenant and agree to and with the said John W. Beckwith, his heirs and assigns that they will forever warrant and defend the said tract of land with the appurtenances to the said John W. Beckwith, his heirs and assigns against themselves, their heirs &c and every person or persons whatsoever, and the said Richard P. Simmons and William Pope Jr. release to the said Beckwith, his heirs and assigns a quit claim to the said tract or parcel of land, and the said Pope releases to said Beckwith a quit claim to a tract of land containing 19 acres more or less on Salt River adjoining Shepherdsville above and conveyed by said Adam Shepherd and offers to said Beckwith by deed recorded in the Bullitt County Court the said Pope reserving the privilege of conveying salt water through, passing over and through any part of said tract of land and of keeping the same in repair and it being clearly understood that the said Pope and Simmons are in no wise in consequence of said release to be answerable for the title of said tract of land or either of them. In testimony whereof the said Adam Shepherd and Rachael his wife and Richard P. Simmons and William Pope Jr. have hereunto set their hands and seals this day and year first above written.
