John McGee's 260 Acre Tract on Long Lick Creek

On 16 Jan 1786, John Ray surveyed 260 acres on Long Lick Creek for John McGee. This tract was on the west side of the tract surveyed for Henry Spelman and John Cockey Owings, who assigned their tract to Adam Shepherd; and also adjoined the tract claimed by Jesse Rude. John McGee obtained a deed to his 260 acres on 6 Oct 1788. The plat drawing shown here has been rotated to more properly orient it.

Surveyed for John McGee, devisee of Thomas McGee assignee of Henry Rhoads who was assignee of Spencer Collins, 260 acres of land in Nelson County on part of a treasury warrant No. 2182 on the west side of Spelman's & Owin's preemption and joining Robert Swaney's improvement on the south. Beginning at a white oak and gum , Spelman's and Owen's beginning corner on the bank of Long Lick Creek at upper end of the licks, thence North 5° 30' East 158 poles to a sugar tree, thence North 84° 30' West 144 poles to hickory and box elder on the bank of said creek, thence South 5° 30' West 230 poles to white oak and sweet gum crossing Long Lick Creek at 120 poles, thence South 84° 30' East 80 poles to a small white oak and gum, Jese Rude's corner of his preemption, thence with his line South 65° East 260 poles to a white oak & beech tree corner to Spilman and Owen's preemption, thence with their line to North 45° West 234 poles to the beginning. Edmund Randolph Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of land office treasury warrant number 2182 issued the 29th day of January 1780, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto John McGee devise of Thomas McGee assignee of Henry Rhoad who was assignee of Spencer Collins a certain tract or parcel of land containing 260 acres by survey bearing date the 16th day of January 1786, lying and being in the County of Nelson on the west side of Spilman's and Owen's preemption and joining Robert Swaney's improvement on the south, and bounded as followeth (to wit) Beginning at a white oak and gum , Spelman's and Owen's beginning corner on the bank of Long Lick Creek at upper end of the licks, thence North 5° 30' East 158 poles to a sugar tree, thence North 84° 30' West 144 poles to hickory and box elder on the bank of said creek, thence South 5° 30' West 230 poles to white oak and sweet gum crossing Long Lick Creek at 120 poles, thence South 84° 30' East 80 poles to a small white oak and gum, Jese Rude's corner of his preemption, thence with his line South 65° East 260 poles to a white oak & beech tree corner to Spilman and Owen's preemption, thence with their line to North 45° West 234 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances, to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said John May and his heirs forever.
