It appears that in 1853 George Kocke contracted with Wilhite Carpenter to take possession of the Forge Tract that Carpenter then held via a mortgage with the Shepherdsville Iron Manufacturing Company. Then in 1855, he signed a mortage deed with Carpenter as shown below.

This deed of mortgage made this 20th day of November 1855 between George G. Kocke of the first part and Willhite Carpenter of the second part, all of Bullitt County, Kentucky. Witnesseth that whereas the party of the first stands indebted to the party of the second part for the purchase of the old forge and ground and houses as per the bond of said Carpenter for cause dated the 1st day of March 1853, signed by said party of the second part and witnessed by Noah Moore and Thomas Hobuses on which bond the party of the first part holds the receipts of the party of the second part, which contract and bond for said property is filed in suit of Bullitt Circuit Court, this day brought in name of the party of the second part against the party of the first part and others, and in order to better secure the payment of the balance of the purchase money for said forge mills &c the said Kocke does hereby sell and put in pledge to the party of the second part the following property, to wit: one dearborn, one wagon, one buggy, one cow, one heifer cow white and red spotted, two bea.. and wardrobe, six beds bedsteads and bedding, one gray horse, one clock and one set cabinet maker and carpenter tools. Also a lot containing about eight acres of land near the town of Shepherdsville conveyed to the party of the first part by W. O. Rickerson and wife.
To have and to hold said property to the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, against the claim of the party of the first part and his heirs, but this conveyance is to be null and void upon the party of the first part paying to the party of the second part the balance of the purchase money for the forge ground and mills aforesaid. When the same shall become due. In witness whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first written. (signed) G. G. Kocke, W. Carpenter.
State of Kentucky, Bullitt County Sct. I Robert F. Samuels, clerk of the county court for said county, do certify that on the 20th day of November 1855 the foregoing deed of mortgage from G. G. Kocke to Willhite Carpenter was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said G. G. Kocke and W. Carpenter to be their act and deed, and the same was ordered to be recorded which is truly done in my office this 20th day of December 1855. (signed) R. F. Samuels, clerk, by C. R.
