Richard Simmons obtained 1000 acres between Salt River and Floyd's Fork from the surveys of Marsham Brashear, and sold parts of it to several people including this part to Humphrey Simmons. At the time, this was still part of Jefferson County.

This indenture made this first day of January 1795 between Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha of the state of Kentucky of the one part and Umphra Simmons of the same state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha in consideration of the sum of five shillings to us in hand paid by Umph Simmons, the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge & ourselves fully satisfied, have given, granted, bargained and sold & by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Umph Simmons, his executors, administrators & assigns, a certain parcel or tract of land lying in the County of Jefferson and state aforesaid on the waters of Salt River, it being part of Marsham Brashear's settlement and preemption and bounded as followeth, to wit. Beginning at two beech, corner to Joseph Simmons' land, running thence North 76° West 136 poles to a white oak, elm & poplar, thence South 14° West 46 poles to an elm & red oak, thence North 76° West 74 poles to a white oak & black oak, thence South 14° West 122 poles to two sugar trees and walnut, thence South 76° East 260 poles to hickory & elm, thence North 14° East 168 poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract of land together with all & singular the appurtenances to the same belonging unto him the said Umhra Simmons, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forever and we the said Richard Simmons and Tabitha do hereby agree to warrant and defend the said 196 acres of land against them and their heirs & against all & every person or persons whoever unto him the said Humphra Simmons his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof we Richard Simmons & Tabitha his wife herein set their hand & seal the day and year within mentioned. (signed) Richard Simmons, Tabitha Simmons.
At a court held for Jefferson County, 7th of July 1795. This indenture of bargain and sale from Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife to Humphrey Simmons was acknowledged by the said Richard and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Stephen Ormsby, Clerk
