Richard Simmons obtained 1000 acres between Salt River and Floyd's Fork from the surveys of Marsham Brashear, and sold parts of it to several people including this part to Levi Simmons. At the time, this was still part of Jefferson County.

This indenture made this sixth day of January in the year of our Lord 1795 between Richard Simmons of Nelson County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Levy Simmons of the said county and state as aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said Richard Simmons and his wife Tabatha Simmons for the full consideration of the sum of 100 pounds to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof they do acknowledge and confess, hath given, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the aforesaid Levy Simmons, his heirs and assigns 175 acres of land situated and lying in Jefferson County, part of a settlement and preemption that was obtained by Marsham Brashear, lying between Floyd's Fork and Salt River, Beginning at a poplar and beech and sugar trees, it being the highest corner up Salt River and running North 15° East 186 poles to a white oak, dogwood and poplar trees, thence North 75° West 117 poles to a beech tree, thence South 15° West 154 poles to a corner of Brittain White's land, continuing the same course 160 poles to three elms and beech on the bank of Salt River, thence up Salt River with its meanders 180 poles to the beginning, to have and to hold the said 175 acres of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining or belonging unto the said Levy Simmons, his heirs and assigns and to the only proper use, benefit and behoof of him the said Levy Simmons, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha Simmons do covenant that they are seized of an indisputable indefesable and absolute rigt of inheritance in the said 175 acres of land and that they will warrant and forever defend the same unto the said Levy Simmons, his heirs and assigns against the claims of all and every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Richard Simmons and his wife Tabitha Simmons hath set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. (signed) Richard Simmons.
At a court held for Jefferson County, January 6th 1795. This deed of bargain and sale from Richard Simmons and Tabitha his wife to Levi Simmons was acknowledged by the said Richard Simmons and ordered to be recorded. Teste. Stephen Ormsby, Clerk.
