Shepherd Heirs to Francis Maraman

On 12 Jul 1828, Sarah Shepherd and Charlotte G. Shepherd sold tracts in Shepherdsville and land south of the Salt River to Francis Maraman, with the consent of their mother Rachel Shepherd, the widow of Adam Shepherd. This indenture made this twelfth day of July one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight between Sarah Shepherd and Charlotte G. Shepherd of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part and Francis Maraman of the same place. Witnesseth that the said Sarah Shepherd and Charlotte G. Shepherd for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars current money of the United States to them in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Francis Maraman, his heirs and assigns all those tracts or parcels of land & lots in said County of Bullitt which are described & bounded as follows - One tract of seven acres, three quarters & eight poles (7a, 3q, 8p) Beginning at a stake two poles from the South East corner of the Seminary lot in Shepherd, thence South eighty three & a half degrees East fifty four poles to a stake in Scott's line, thence with said line North six degrees East five poles two links to a stake in Pope's line, thence with Pope's line North thirty six degrees West twenty eight poles two links to a stake in said line, thence North eighty three & a half degrees West thirty four poles two links to the North East corner of the Seminary lot, thence with the Seminary line South six & a half degrees West twenty seven poles three links to the beginning. One other tract of eight acres two quarters and thirty six and three quarters poles and is bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning on East Street in Shepherdsville twenty four feet from the North West corner of the Seminary lot, thence South eighty three and a half degrees East fifty eight poles to a stake in Pope's line, thence with said line North thirty six degrees West forty six poles eight links to a stake on East Street, thence South six and a half degrees West thirty two and a fourth poles to the Beginning. Also so much of a tract of six hundred acres of land on the South side of Salt River patented to Shepherd which has not been sold and conveyed by Shepherd and reserved by Pope, the said six hundred acre survey bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a beech on the North bank of Salt River marked A. S. and running thence South thirty South thirty six degrees West three hundred & thirty three and a third poles to a stake near a small hickory (a beech & elm called for in the patent of Shepherd being gone) thence North fifty four degrees West three hundred and forty six and a third poles t oa stake near a hickory & honey locust stump, thence North thirty six degrees East two hundred and sixty poles t oa stake at the intersection of the line of the 900 ?? acre survey of Shepherd passing Stansbury's corner on the bank of Salt River of a beech, elm & sweet gum at 156 poles, thence with said River and with its meanders to the beginning. But out of this last 600 acre survey there is specially reserved and not conveyed or intended to be conveyed here a tract of (100) one hundred acres heretofore sold to Benjamin Stansbury and (120) one hundred and twenty acres reserved by William Pole to himself in his conveyance to said Sarah & Charlotte G. Shepherd dated the 15th of March 1827, recorded in Bullitt office - also ten acres sold to Francis Maraman and fifty acres sold & surveyed to Beckwith & Grayson, a reference to the conveyance hereto made to said tracts reserved out of said 600 acres will show. And the parties of the first part convey all the said residue of the said six hundred acres more or less which is not reserved by the clause and named as aforesaid of 100 acres, 120 acres, 10 acres, & 50 acres a reference to a corrected plat & survey made ?? of record in the Bullitt County Court Office in Deed Book F, page 291 from Wm. Pope to said parties of the first part dated the 15 of March 1827 will show. With the appurtenances to have & to hold the said tracts of land and premises unto him the said Francis Maraman and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Sarah Shepherd & Charlotte G. Shepherd do covenant to & with said Maraman to warrant & defend the land here sold (with the reservations aforesaid) to him his heirs & assigns against the claim or themselves & their heirs & against the claims of all other persons whatsoever by this their deed of general warranty to his said F. Maraman. And Rachel Shepherd, widow of Adam Shepherd dec'd who has dower in the land here sold as also in the 10 acres reserved as conveyed to Maraman joins in this conveyance for the purpose of relinquishing her right of dower in the land here sold and also in the 10 acres heretofore sold Maraman, and she does hereby relinquish & convey to said Francis Maraman her dower in & to the said lands here conveyed and the said 10 acres aforesaid. I Sydney S. Caldwell, Deputy Clerk for Noah C. Summers Clerk of the Bullitt County Court in the State of Kentucky do certify that this indenture was on this the 12th day of July 1828 acknowledged by Charlotte G. Shepherd to be her act & deed for the purpose therein mentioned. And the same was acknowledge by Sarah Shepherd and Rachel Shepherd on this 6th day of August 1828. And the said Charlotte G. Shepherd, Sarah Shepherd & Rachel Shepherd were all willing that the same might be entered of record whereupon the same with this certificate is ?? entered of record in the clerk's office of the Bullitt County Court.
